Frontiers of Environmental Science & Engineering 2009, Volume 3, Issue 3,   Pages 334-340 doi: 10.1007/s11783-009-0039-y

Abstract: The variation of TN/TP ratio was caused by a variation in TN rather than in TP when TN/TP<22.When TN/TP ≥ 22, the variation of TP affected the TN/TP ratio more significantly than TN.

Assessment of liver volume variation to evaluate liver function

Frontiers of Medicine 2012, Volume 6, Issue 4,   Pages 421-427 doi: 10.1007/s11684-012-0223-5

Abstract:

In order to assess the value of liver volumetry in cirrhosis and acute liver failure (ALF) patients, we explored the correlation between hepatic volume and severity of the hepatic diseases. The clinical data of 48 cirrhosis patients with 60 normal controls and 39 ALF patients were collected. Computed tomography-derived liver volume (CTLV) and body surface area (BSA) of normal controls were calculated to get a regression formula for standard liver volume (SLV) and BSA. Then CTLV and SLV of all patients were calculated and grouped by Child-Turcotte-Pugh classification for cirrhosis patients and assigned according to prognosis of ALF patients for further comparison. It turned out that the mean liver volume of the control group was 1 058±337 cm3. SLV was correlated with BSA according to the regression formula. The hepatic volume of cirrhosis patients in Child A, B level was not reduced, but in Child C level it was significantly reduced with the lowest liver volume index (CTLV/SLV). Likewise, in the death group of ALF patients, the volume index was significantly lower than that of the survival group. Based on volumetric study, we proposed an ROC (receiver operating characteristic) analysis to predict the prognosis of ALF patients that CTLV/SLV<83.9% indicates a poor prognosis. In conclusion, the CTLV/SLV ratio, which reflects liver volume variations, correlates well with the liver function and progression of cirrhosis and ALF. It is also a very useful marker for predicting the prognosis of ALF.

Investigation on the N∶P ratio varying under the blue-green alga seasonal blooming in north area of

He Feng,Duan Changqun,Du Jinsong,Han Yaping,Guo Yanying,Pan Min,Song renbin

Strategic Study of CAE 2010, Volume 12, Issue 6,   Pages 94-98

Abstract:

For several reasons, the north area of the Dianchi Lake is prolific of blue-green alga. In this paper, the dynamic biomass of alga was investigated. Both of the concentrations of N and P in original water and in filtered water were also be monitored. The aim of the study is to figure out the alga's influence on the concentrations of N and P in the water, and to analyze the relationship between them by using the method of ecological stoichiometry. It is disclosed that from April to November is the main stage of alga blooming. Especially, alga blooms seriously and is uncontrolled from May to September. By data analysis, we find that the concentrations of N and P vary conforming to the dynamic of the biomass of alga, and there is positive correlation-ship between them. The correlation coefficient between the concentrations of N in water and alga's biomass is 0.955, between the concentrations of P in water and alga's biomass is 0.952. By taken the method of stoichiometry analysis, we find both the N∶P ratios of alga and water are not constant, and both of them have no significant ecological stoichiometry of the N∶P ratio. We also made correlation-ship analysis between the N∶P ratio of water and biomass of alga. The correlation-ship between them is 0.308, which illustrats that the biomass of alga is not related to the N∶P ratio of water. Thus we can declare that there is only one most efficient way to control blue-green alga booming, to reduce the concentration of N and P in water of eutrophic lakes.

RESPONSE OF WHEAT COMPOSITE CROSS POPULATIONS TO DISEASE AND CLIMATE VARIATION OVER 13 GENERATIONS

Frontiers of Agricultural Science and Engineering 2021, Volume 8, Issue 3,   Pages 400-415 doi: 10.15302/J-FASE-2021394

Abstract:

Since the F5 (2005), three winter wheat composite cross populations (CCPs) based on germplasm specifically suitable for low-input conditions were subjected to natural selection under organic and conventional management. In the F6, each CCP was divided into two parallel populations (12 CCPs in total) and maintained continuously until 2018. Commonly used modern cultivars with different disease susceptibilities were grown alongside to assess the agronomic performance of the CCPs. The organically managed CCPs were comparable in yield and foliar disease resistance to two continuously used reference cultivars, Achat and Capo. In contrast, under conventional management the cv. Capo outyielded the CCPs (Achat was not tested), highlighting the importance of parental cultivar choice for specific management systems. The CCPs were found to be moderately resistant to brown rust and even to the newly emerged stripe rust races prevalent in Europe since 2011. Differences between the CCPs were mainly due to parental genetic background and were significant in the first five generations, but were no longer so in the last five generations. In addition, these differences tended to vary depending on the experimental year and the environmental stresses present. In conclusion, the CCPs despite being derived from older cultivars are able to compete with more recently released reference cultivars under organic farming practices and represent a dynamic germplasm resource.
